Preparing Business Records for a Data Partnership

Start with the records you already maintain

Organizations in law, accounting, and investment may hold extensive records from completed work. IDMA SaaS is exploring data partnerships for qualifying records, including closed-matter files, tax and bookkeeping materials, and documentation from completed deals.

Examples of records under consideration

  • Law firms and legal teams: pleadings and discovery productions from concluded litigation, plus data rooms and contracts from completed transactions. Active matters are excluded; files are anonymized as described in the opportunity.
  • Accounting and tax practices: tax returns, workpapers, and bookkeeping records covering C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, and nonprofits. Complete partnership K-1 packages and purchase orders are of particular interest.
  • Investment firms and deal teams: records from closed deals, credit files, and portfolio reporting. A complete deal record may include the data room, financial model, and investment memo.

Potential partner profiles

Different opportunities have different qualification criteria. The legal-records opportunity is aimed at U.S.-preferred firms and in-house legal teams with 5–300 attorneys and staff and at least five years of closed matters. The accounting opportunity is for U.S. firms with 5–200 employees and experience across several filing seasons. The investment opportunity is open to firms anywhere with 5–200 employees and at least three years of closed deals.

Potential compensation varies by opportunity

  • Closed legal matters and completed deals: $50,000–$1.2 million, depending on matter size and completeness.
  • Accounting and tax records: $25,000–$865,000, depending on client count and filing seasons.
  • Investment-firm records: $50,000–$800,000, depending on deal count and completeness.

These are potential ranges, not guaranteed payments. Eligibility and compensation depend on the records and specific partnership terms.

Consider completeness and permissions

Records are most useful to assess when their scope and organization are clear: which matters, filing seasons, or deals they cover; whether supporting materials are present; and whether the records are complete. Any proposed licensing requires appropriate authorization and review of confidentiality, privacy, and other applicable obligations.
